Was Allen Ginsberg Jewish?

Allen Ginsberg

Well, to make a long story short, Allen Ginsberg was Jewish!

Since Allen Ginsberg's mother was Jewish, and in Orthodox Judaism and Conservative Judaism, those with a Jewish mother (or those who underwent a halakhic conversion) are considered Jewish, then that makes him Jewish. His father was Jewish too.

Allen Ginsberg (whose full birth name was Irwin Allen Ginsberg) was born on June 3, 1926 in Newark, New Jersey, U.S.. Allen Ginsberg passed away on April 5, 1997 (aged 70).

He is one of the leading figures of both the Beat Generation of the 1950s and the counterculture that soon would follow. He vigorously opposed militarism, economic materialism and sexual repression. Ginsberg is best known for his epic poem ''Howl'', in which he denounced what he saw as the destructive forces of capitalism and conformity in the United States.
