Is Roman Polanski Jewish?

Roman Polanski

Well, to make a long story short, Roman Polanski is not Jewish! (though he considers himself Jewish)

Since Roman Polanski's mother is not Jewish, and in Orthodox Judaism and Conservative Judaism, those with a Jewish mother (or those who underwent a halakhic conversion) are considered Jewish, then that makes him not Jewish (though once again, he DOES consider himself to be Jewish). Though he is not Jewish, His father is Jewish , and by Reform Judaism and Reconstructionist Judaism, who accept both matrilineal (by mother) and patrilineal (by father) descent views, he is considered Jewish.

Roman Polanski (whose full birth name is Rajmund Roman Thierry Polanski) was born on 18 August 1933 in Paris, France.

Known for his films, such as Rosemary's Baby (1968), Chinatown (1974), Tess (1979), Frantic (1988), Bitter Moon (1992), The Pianist (2002) and The Ghost Writer (2010). He is also known for the charges against him of statutory rape, that made him flee the country before final sentencing. Polanski's wife, the actress Sharon Tate, was murdered by Charles Manson.
